A-level let's get planning!

What’s up guys! Welcome to the third blog post of this week.  With these postings, I am going to be starting my official planning for my project! After extensive research, I’m glad to be able to brainstorm my idea for my documentary.

As I mentioned previously, I’m going to be doing a documentary so I need to come up with some questions that I want to ask my subjects. In this post, I’ll be researching indirect interviewing strategies and coming up with some questions. In addition to that, it also looked at my notebook to review some notes we took in class about epic documentaries, and some planning techniques.

Indirect interviews are interviews that involve the specific subject speaking into the camera without answering a question (Sahi, n.d., slide 1). I chose to do indirect interviews. This is  mainly to  capture and convey the emotions of how the subject is feeling and how the subjects explain explain Latin American culture (Sahi, n.d., slide 1). To make the interview seem more natural, the interviewer is not recorded within the same shot that the question was asked (Sahi, n.d., slide 1). This is mainly to illustrate the connection the subject has with the topic and the audience.

In contrast, direct interviews are filmed with the conversation, as well as the response. For my documentary, this type of interview would not be suitable as I am aiming to get raw information and emotions from the subjects. Direct interviews produce more structured responses, which is not something I want (Sahi, n.d., slide 2).

Here are some interview questions I’ve been pondering:

  • Can you describe how Latin American culture and music has affected your selection in music for dance?
  • Can you elaborate on how Latin American music has changed over the decades?
  • Do you feel as if Latin American culture has an influence on creating unity within society ?
  • How has different cultures blended together influenced your stylistic choices as a choreographer/ director?

Blog Posting- Sound

Blog Posting Sound Project 10/10/24  Project Link: soundscape_HernandezLee_Per7 In class we learned about the use of sound and how it is so important with film. Many film genres for example, like horror, would not give you the same feeling without the use of sound. We took notes in class about sound illusion, diegetic, non-diegetic and voiceover sounds and many more. We went in depth about the use of foley art. Foley is a type of sound that is in sync with a picture or video.    We were asked to create a 1–2-minute video of sound that we would have to edit, and layer with multiple sounds with the help of websites that were provided to us. We also had to incorporate 4 foley sounds of our own and document them into a separate file. No video is allowed.    My partner and I had an initial idea of a completely different story, and we decided to switch it up. We searched for sounds that would make the most sense and sound realistic. Once we produced a new s...

Production Post- obstacles February 25th, 2025

February 25th , 2025 For this week's blogging, one of the tasks we were asked to complete is to create 3   production posts of our c hoice. I have decided to create this post about some obstacles that I face during my planning process of my portfolio project. I feel as if it is important to incorporate some obstacles to create a sense of realism when creating a film.   So, one of the obstacles I have faced is the location of my film opening. In my script , one of the locations I was supposed to film at which is the *home garage* I am not able to film there because of the extensive time it would take my actors to change locations, I had previously planned to shoot on separate days to give myself more time but an unexpected change occurred. How do I plan to fix that issue you may ask? Well first I want to shoot everything on the same day, so I have the footage and get to editing as soon as possible. I will also have to al ter the script to best suit my actors. ...
