Two possible genre choices for project 2/2/25

Genre options  

Out of many film genres I have narrowed down my choices, a sports comedy or Adventure film. I chose these two genres because I feel they best suit my storyline and the vision I have for my film opening. There are many qualifications to justify a good film in these selected categories. Additionally, here are some successful film examples that align with these genres.  

Characteristics of Comedy 

 

 (Home Alone 1990)  

The definition of a comedy film is to intentionally make audiences laugh and to create humor within the film. However, the genre has specific characteristics so viewers can easily detect the genre when looking for a film to watch. For example, the use of bright lighting and colors and having specific dialogue or props to establish this genre. Comedies feature the use of wordplay and create unrealistic situations. This is done for pure entertainment and laughs. 

For instance, Home Alone- a classic 1990’s film that gained popularity quickly for its humorous dialogue and scenes. The protagonist Kevin Mcallister is accidentally left behind in his home while his family left on vacation. He does a series of acts that are humorous to audiences and make the film overall enjoyable.

Characteristics of Adventure  

 (The Goonies 1985) 

The definition of an Adventure movie is to develop meaning and a storyline with an ending result of a reward or treasure, the genre takes us through a journey of danger and excitement. Yet, there are still multiple conventions to this genre. For example, protagonist, protagonist, danger, and plot twists. By including these conventions, it makes the film more enjoyable, and it is easier for audience members to distinctively decide the genre based on the cover and many more details.  

   For example, The Goonies is a successful 1985 adventure film that spiked popularity due to its plot twists, storyline, and dialogue. Childhood friends begin a thrilling adventure by discovering an old map leading them to a long-lost pirate ‘One eye willy.’ The film was created heavily based on the conventions of adventure. The Goonies travel through a series of events that makes the film memorable and adventurous.
