For my research of choice I have decided to research how to create comedic dialogue. I feel researching this sub-topic is one step closer to creating a successful project. This information will further help me in the future when having to create a script for my film opening. Down below is a reflection on what I have learned.
Comedic dialogue can be used to express irony or develop an adventurous plot. An important aspect about comedy is understanding the context of the scene. When creating funny dialogue it is important to understand the scenarios the characters are going through to add texture to the scene. For example, if a film has a death scene that brings the mood down, adding irony to contrast the event contributes to the commentary.
Additionally, another important aspect that you may consider when writing dialogue is developing the character. For example, In the movie White Chicks (2004) two detectives go undercover in an attempt to save the Wilson Sisters from possible endangerment. While this plot is thickening, it is important to keep the two main characters alive and full of comedic lines, aligning with the genre. It is important to create the comedy based on the characters traits and personality, then you build from that.
Some useful tips I have learned is instead of trying to create a brand new joke, maybe try adapting an old one to best match the dialogue and the character. Another tip is to pay attention to how the joke is being delivered and maybe the accent it is being told in.
These tips will help me in the near future when brainstorming in the production process.
