Character Development

 Character development 2/19/25

Character development is super important when creating films because it allows the audience to further understand and embrace the character that is being displayed. When developing my two characters I would say it was not easy to have these characters totally planned out. However, since I have had time to process and think through these characters, I have a better understanding of them, and you will too. Let us dive into these characters and see what makes them so special.

DEVELOPING LUCA

When creating Luca, he is a fun character to dream of. In my film opening, his personality is so vibrant and alive. Luca is shown to be caring and dedicated. Let us continue into these specifics. As you can tell by my script and Board above, He LOVES baseball, he cannot get enough of it. Luca watches and studies professional Major League Baseball players and reenacts their exact moves and takes note how to be better. He is a dreamer. In Luca’s free time he likes collecting baseball cards and studying their statistics; he is quite intelligent. He likes having fun but also watches his friend Noah's back.

DEVELOPING NORA

Additionally, when creating the character Nora, Luca’s childhood best friend, I found it easier to create Nora. The reason behind this is because I wanted a character that would contrast Luca but also get along well together. Hence, why they are best friends. So, Nora is characterized as a loving character that can be silly at times. For example, throughout my film opening I created Nora's dialogue to be comedic and innocent. Nora also enjoys playing baseball and unlike Luca, where she loves a variety of teams, Nora loves the Yankees. She looks up to everything the Yankee do. If you think you know more than Nora about the Yankees, think again. Nora is such a lighthearted character who lights the mood in any room. I choose a girl to portray the best friend of Luca because I wanted her to break steryotypical opinions and represent girls can do a boy sport, she is a tomboy.

HOW DO THESES CHARACTERS COMPLIMENT EACHOTHER?

To answer that question is simple, they bond through their love of baseball. Throughout my film opening and their friendship, they understand each other, and they care for each other.

Creating these characters was such a fun experience to utilize my knowledge and create what I had imagined. I cannot wait to bring these characters on screen.
