Post 4- Post production/production

The post production process of any documentary is challenging to say the least. This process taught my Group a lot of things about editing and overall, how to polish our productions. When faced with this tight time limit, we knew that editing would take a long time to perfect. However, since we decided to film interviews in one day and collect b-roll footage in a separate day, it left us little time to edit.

Another constraint of the post production process is that our main editor, David was leaving town just before the due date arrived. This required us to alter our entire schedule that we had set in place so we could be as successful and as productive as possible. When we first heard this news,we were a bit concerned because we all know editing takes a long time, specifically when you're editing a 5-to-7-minute documentary (not including incorporating sound, creating graphics, etc.)

As mentioned previously, due to us not having microphones, we had to set up a separate phone under the subject's feet so we could get a better-quality sound and you could hear the subjects voice clearly, the sound that was recorded on the phone and the footage that was filmed on the actual camera had to be synced to match their lips. If anyone knows anything about that process, it is tedious!

Considering that we had to shoot multiple shots with different angles and reshoot a lot of the information due to background noises or fixing the camera, we tended to have a lot of extra footage that we had to shorten down. Which is another reason why our documentary fell to the shorter end. Additionally, I thought our music was a brilliant choice. I think it brings a positive energy and I think it really helped us in the long run in the context of the outcome of our documentary since we had minor mistakes within our final draft.

Furthermore, we wanted to add a comedic aspect to the opening of our documentary to engage with the audience. For example, our film opens with: Jetflex Original. Following the production company, our documentary name was shown. To give a brief overview, our title "Lineage" was chosen because we thought it represented what our documentary was trying to convey, which is the feeling of having a community that's like family and kindling such special relationships through a common interest/hobby.
